Sound Paths: Exploring Music Across Cultures

Welcome to Sound Paths, a personal journey through sound and music. My name is Rafał Habel-Bloodgood, and I have been fortunate to explore and play a variety of instruments from different cultures around the world. Each instrument carries its own story, and my approach to playing them is guided by curiosity and intuition rather than formal training.

A Variety of Instruments, A Shared Language

My music draws on a wide range of instruments, including the African Kora, the Lithuanian Birbyne, the Bulgarian Kaval, bamboo flutes, hand percussion, and others. These instruments are steeped in tradition, and I approach them with respect while allowing myself the freedom to explore their possibilities in my own way.

I don’t claim to master these instruments in the traditional sense, but rather to connect with them on a personal level. By experimenting with sound and improvisation, I try to bring their unique voices to life in a way that feels honest and meaningful to me.

What Sound Paths Means to Me

Sound Paths is about:

  • Learning Through Exploration: Letting intuition guide my relationship with each instrument, discovering what feels natural and expressive.
  • Celebrating Diversity: Drawing inspiration from the incredible variety of sounds and traditions these instruments represent.
  • Sharing Connection: Creating music that resonates with emotions and brings people together, no matter their background.

An Invitation to Listen

Through performances, recordings, and collaborations, I hope to share the beauty of these instruments and the music they inspire. It’s a journey of discovery, and I’m grateful for the chance to explore these sounds and share them with others along the way.
