«J» – A Musical and Visual Composition
The On Off Ensemble presents «J», a groundbreaking musical and stage composition. This unique work brings together double bass, violin, musical saw, birbynė, flute, percussion, voices, electronic sounds, visuals, and a conductor, creating an unforgettable experience.
The Inspiration Behind «J»
At the heart of «J» lies the compelling story of Joan Vollmer, a key figure of the Beat generation. Her life, both influential and tragic, serves as the foundation for this work, which explores themes of attraction, repulsion, and revelation.
What Makes «J» Unique?
«J» combines archival and original material, using innovative techniques like cut-up and fold-in alongside the composer’s personal recording and creation system. Through the orchestration of bodies, sound design, and stunning visuals, “J” creates a multidimensional landscape that blurs the line between reality and imagination.
This performance transforms sound and visual elements into a rich tapestry of storytelling, unveiling a new world through reinterpretation and creativity.
Spontaneous Visual and Audio Material in «J»
A hallmark of «J» is the use of spontaneous visual and audio recordings. The contributors, unaware of their participation at the time of recording, provide an authentic and unpredictable dimension to the performance.
